Department of Homeland Security Essay Example for Free

Department of Homeland Security Essay The Department of Homeland Security was established in the year 2002 as a part of the United States effort to combat against terrorists attacks. It was also instituted to respond against natural disasters that will greatly affect the United States people. Its primary goal is to protect the civilian inside or out of the country. Its main functionality is to prepare for actions to respond to domestic crisis. Â  It also provides regulation on cyber security issues. The said department set color codes to describe the threat levels of terrorists in the country. Being well regarded as one of the largest department in the federal cabinet, this department should think of ways on how to perform its function to protect the people of the United States of America. From the said functions of the department of homeland security, it is the role of the concerned department to deal with problems arising that would threaten its citizen. It should not interfere with the scope of work of the other departments. There are a lot of work to be done in monitoring possible threats by the terrorists against the lives and properties of the United States people. Likewise, the department also helps in dealing with people affected by various calamities such hurricanes, earthquake, flash floods and other nature-driven calamities. With respect to the military’s role, the main difference is that the military is not being used to meddle with the domestic issues or internal affairs but for combat and monitoring of the country’s security. Normally, military is under the command of the Department of National Defense, the department focused on military affairs overseas. This can show the major role differences played by both the military and the homeland security department. In the same way, the military should be cautioned not to go beyond its jurisdiction particularly with the civilian communities. Their participation should be limited on providing assistance on calamity-affected populace together with the other agencies of the government.

Educational Goals and Philosophy :: Education Teaching Essays

Educational Goals and Philosophy Webster defines philosophy as a critical study of fundamental beliefs and the grounds for them. There are major aspects of philosophy that people use in everyday life: metaphysics, ethics, aesthetics, and epistemology. One of the my personal views of philosophy is the nature of students. I believe that everyone can learn, just at different levels. Physical Education will be the field that I will be concentrating on. I've always enjoyed learning how to play different sports when I was in grade school and my dream was to be able to teach kids how to play these sports that I was once taught how to play. I know that mostly all kids favorite subject is Physical Education so it will be easier to teach a class to kids that want to be there and want to cooperate as well. In that sense, I will try to relate to students in a way that they can enjoy Physical Education just as much as I want to teach it to them. My classroom will basically be in the gymnasium. It will be run in the same matter, as I was once taught. I'll let the students socialize for a few moments before class starts. Once the bell rings I will have them stand in single file lines. After this is successfully completed I will lead the class in stretching exercises to avoid injury such as arm and leg stretches as well as jumping jacks and sit-ups. This is a good way to organize the class as well as motivating them for the rest of the period as well. After this is done, I will have the whole class sit down while I explain the unit of the sport they are going to learn. I will have separate units lasting a week. After each unit, the class will take a short quiz on the sports they had just performed. Discipline is something that falls with involvement. If the students want to be in my class then they need to have good organization as well as motivation. Everything falls into the category of Discipline. That's why I love this field. I can handle any obstacle that may come my way, and I know that kids love Physical Education more then anything else.

Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding - 1056 Words

A good leader needs to have a specific set of character traits and values that will work towards the betterment of the people he is leading. The most important of these are the ability to speak easily in front of a large audience, the ability to unite a seemingly divided people if need be, the ability to discern what decisions are the best for the people, and the ability to make the right decision even it is not the popular one. Of the two main leaders in â€Å"Lord of the Flies,† Ralph and Jack, Ralph seems to possess more of these attributes, therefore making him a better leader. Applying these attributes to real life politics, the best candidate to lead a people would have to be, I’m almost sad to say, Donald Trump. The first attribute that†¦show more content†¦For a leader to have this attribute, he must make the decision that will benefit his people the most. This leads into the final attribute: the ability to make the right choice, even when it is not the most popular choice. Once again, Lincoln is a good example of this attribute. When the Civil War started, Lincoln decided to fight for the freedom of slaves. This was not an easy decision to make by any means, but he knew that it was the right thing to do. Doing what’s best for the majority may not make everyone happy, but it’s something that simply must be done. With all of these attributes covered, the person who is best fit for leadership in the novel â€Å"Lord of the Flies† would have to be Ralph. Ralph is perhaps the best public speaker of any of the characters in the book. He makes many speeches and most of them are well done. He could use some help with the next attribute, however. When it comes to uniting the boys, who are divided between Ralph and Jack, Ralph fails miserably. His failure to unite the boys results in Piggy’s death and the boys’ primal reversion to barbarism. Ralph does, however, have the ability to discern what decisions need to be made to get everyone rescued. Ralph realizes early on that, in order to get rescued, he needs to maintain a signal fire that can be seen by any nearby boats. Some of the boys are focused on having fun and, in Jack’s case, hunting pigs rather than getting rescued. The other boys view this simple task as
